How's it going? I bought and had an Alpine CDA 9833 and a set of the Alpine SPS-570 speakers installed sometime last year.
Now I bought the deck because it was the best one with the most powerful internal amp. And the speakers because they were also the best Alpine had at the time that fit my vehicle. I read that the speakers were great and that the receiver had more than enough to power them. Now they sound very good and I've had compliments, but it doesn't sound full. Loud but not surrounding. It starts to distort before I want it to; when the volume gets to around 15 - 17, if it matters. I've tried adjusting the equalizer and crossovers, but nothing seems to work, I just leave it on flat. I listen to all kinds of music, but mostly punk rock. What's wrong here? Is my deck not supplying enough power? Do I need new speakers that can handle more, or is it not getting enough? Do I need an amp? If so, will THIS do?
Oh and I kept reading somewhere that the internal amp for my model had to be directly connected to the battery, but I don't see anything close. Does this matter at all? Any help would be great. Thanks.
No deck, factory or aftermarket, can cleanly produce enough power to really sound good. If all you are running are those Alpine speakers then you should definitely amp them. Also, you will not get good bass out of door speakers. They are not capable of producing low frequency sounds. If you truly want a "full" sound you are going to need at least one subwoofer to compliment the system.
I see. I'll definately have to get an amp then. Do you know if the one above is sufficient for my speakers or if I need something more? I had bought 4 10" Alpine Type-R subs a month after I got my system installed but never got around to getting them installed and just gave them to a friend. I guess I should have kept those. Maybe I should pick up a pair of 12s and an amp for them as well.
That amp should work for you. 40W RMS is a lot better than the less than 20W the deck puts out. And as long as you balance out your system with a couple of subs then your truck will be rockin'.
I would have to recommend wiring that head unit
to the battery--like the owners\install manual recommends
use a 12ga. wire and also grnd to the chassis 12ga. wire
some of the high power head units can draw up to 15amps
which is too much for the stock wiring
also check your speaker connections to make sure your speakers are in phase with one another
Thanks brian. I'll check get that checked out. I took it to a local shop that a buddy recommended the first time, but I had a feeling they really didn't know too much. When I asked him how to set the equalizer, he said he couldn't figure it out. It was a good deal, but I'm never taking it back there again. When I get my amp, I'll probably get it installed at Best Buy, and I'll have them check everything that the shop did.
