I built as a kid through my teenage years then got away from it. Now I have a collection of Mustangs and miscellaneous Fords and 60's Muscle cars that is approaching 300. I need to get to building some of them soon. I do still have three or four of my original works saved from my destructive years, but no ships or planes. There is some chat rooms in Yahoo that are going strong about modeling and in particular Ford related.
I've built a model combat ship, DKM bismarck, here are a couple photos. Modeling more to get best appearance of the actual ship, as it is a combat model 1:144 scale. Independent rotation fore/aft, cannon firing fore/aft, cannon depression (I'm shooting at other ships with giant BB's (1/4 steel) ) throttle and rudder. I think it's good looking HMS lion however (another clubmembers) awesome, that ship is fully scratch built (woodframe construction) Bismarck however is a fiberglass hull. Balsa skin allows penetration into the hull (which has "windows" cut in it).
I still like flying models, and always wanted to scale up some of them to put real-time video links in a model plane to fly it from a ground based console.
my last R/C club(Atlanta, GA) had a guy who was trying to get distributing rights for a similar setup. pretty cool stuff. I forget the specs, but real time video at somewhere around 24fps over a half-mile range.
