Alright, which one is better, any personal experiences and any comments are apprieciated. If I can get either of them for about half price are they wroth it??? I was thinking it would be nice to have a little extra oomff up the hills when towing. I'm also gonna do some exhaust work and gauges. Thought a programmer would complement the others nicely. Give me your thoughts. (I would really like to change the rear gears but that costs to many $$$$$$$)
I had my superchips tuner since June or so. It was hands down the best mod I ever did when you consider how cheap they are. I have mine set to the performance mode. All the tranny shifts I have set in the Superchips default mode. I have to run 93 in the performance mode. I only saw minor MPG increase. I got more out of the tuner for $300 than I did out of the Banks Powerpack for $1500 and two days work.
I am the same boat as you about the gears. I have 3.73LS and with 285's I noticed a low end loss. I would like at least 4.30 but might go 4.56 if I ever want a 4.5 DR lift.
I put a Superchips in my '96 t-bird 4.6L, and while I can't speak to the V10's improvement with a SC tuner, I can speak to their customer service.
The first chip went bad - it ran for about 2 years and then the car would die - it was like your little brother playing with the light switch. And NO codes were logged, so I started on a theory - the computer was locking up, resetting itself, and restarting - and then the engine would run again... this was in less than 1 second lapses.
After removing the chip and never having the problem again (it was happening at least 3-4 times a week), I emailed Superchips - they gave me an RMA within a few hours (had to call after they told me to), UPS'd it back, they shipped me back a brand-new chip, and with an improved program. It's been in there the last 7 years, and still going...
All I'm saying is, don't worry about Superchips' warranty or customer service, that's for sure...
4.30s would be a heaven sent!!! Was there a noticeable difference when driving emty and loaded witht the new tune vrs the stock tune?
The most noticable difference is the way the tranny shifts. It will hold gears longer when needed. When it does shift, it is quicker and making power in the next gear sooner. I mostly use my trucks ability in the payload. Just yesterday i had a 1100# mower in the back at the V10 was laughing at it. like it was never there. Granted 1100#'s is not much but the difference was there.
Boxcar, If your truck were to grow full size rear doors I think we'd have the exact same truck!!! I guess great minds think alike, lol. I figure I can find a used one for around $150-$200 so I figure I might as well try it, if it doesn't perform as I am expecting I can always resell it. Is there any reason not to buy a used on as long as they unlocked the VIN? Thanks
The only thing I can think of is superchips keeps on updating the tuner. So a tuner that was baught in 2003 for a 2003 V10 would not have the same updates and improvements as a tuner baught in 2005 for a 2003 V10. If that makes any sense?
I got mine through Motor Haven and paid $320 for it. That was minus the instant rebate a a Club FTE discount.
You do have to check once in a while for a "new program" ... not sure about the tuners, but my Superchips I had warranteed definitely was updated with different parameters.
The tuners may be updateable some other way (PC?) but not sure at this point.
I have been using the SCMT for a couple months now and love it. Overall, it just plain makes the truck respond better and is more fun to drive.
I run the 87 octane program most of the time as I tow infrequently. I have run the 91+ performance program for a while just to see how the truck runs and it is a noticable difference. More power, much better shifts, quicker off the line, better passing at highway speeds, etc...
Even with the 87 octane program the truck is runs so much better than stock it is amazing.
i'm useing a sct with my 05 v10 and love it. it's most for sure the better buy. for me we even where able to strap my baby down on the rollers and even finer retune the tuner. a true dyno tune. hyperchip i don't think you can do that with
