My 2001 F150 4X4 Supercrew (100K miles) has developed an electrical whine that can be heard through the stereo in conjunction with pressing on the throttle. It does not matter if the stereo is on or not the sound can still be heard.
Usually that is caused by a bad alternator.
I'd start by checking all the grounds near the battery though. If they are all good then I would unplug the connector on the alternator and see what happens.
Thanks Dave. I checked the grounds around the battery, cleaned and tightened them up, no help. I as afraid it might be the alternator. I will test it out this afternoon.
I have checked all the grounds, disconnected the alternator, disconnected the battery and the whine is still there. I also pulled the fuse to the radio and the whine is still there. So I think I as wrong when I said it was coming over the stereo. I don't know where it is coming from now. It is not that bad and most people would never notice it but I am kind of ****.
Guess I am going to have to take it into the shop.
do you have aftermarket subs or anything like that installed?
if you do and you have RCA cables and a power wire running, you need to make sure that your RCAs are ran on one side and the power is running on the other. they do not need to be together, this sometimes causes the noise that you hear more when you press the gas. let us know what you find, -Rhino-
