Side view mirror warranty ?

My F-150 is 11 months old. I pulled my truck into the garage to change the oil. Before backing it out, I wanted to fold the driver's side mirror in to get out easier. As I folded it in, it made a pop noise and the mirror swivel broke and the whole thing needs to be replaced. Should this be covered under warranty? Ford is saying I could've done it through neglect and it might not be covered. They want to take pictures and submit them to a Ford rep to see if it will be covered. Does this sound right? I thought Ford had to prove it was neglect, not me prove it wasn't neglect.

I guess bumper to bumper is misleading.

That sure as heck should be covered under warranty. Ask to speak with supervisors if they are unwilling to help you.

The only time i've seen a swivel mirror pop and break was one that had a power folding mirror option and the customer didn't know it. hope this isnt the case because they are expensive if your dealer wont warranty it for you.

provided there are no visible signs(scratches/scrapes/knicks) of where you hit it on a wall or something like that, than they should have no problems warrantying it for you

Dunno what you could 'neglect' on a mirror if they mean neglect in the sense of maintenance.

What do you 'maintain' on a mirror joint?

I'm thinking maybe they mean neglect, in that you neglected to fold it before you hit something?
That would be a weird way of expressing it, though.

Pictures should clear it up, hopefully.

Please post em if you can, so we can see if there is something we can watch out for?

The mirror is on a swivel joint so that it can be folded back. Therefore, when you pushed the mirror back and it broke, that is a warranty issue.

Don't let the Dealer BS you. Many Dealers have Service Managers whose primary goal is to get rid of the warranty customer. There should be addresses of the District Service Manager available to you for recourse.

As a sample, when the recall came out to remove the thin pads on the styleside pickup my Dealer had my pickup for 7 hours. Then they told me the Body Shop they wanted to sub my pickup out to had a full schedule. I asked why the sub? The Service Manangers reply was that they had to remove the bed. do some cutting, remove the pads and paint, then reweld. I said BS.

I brought the pickup home, scraped the pads off. Removed the residue pad cement, then painted. Slick as silk.

Exactly. Take the truck to another dealer; this one's trying to SELL you a mirror, which is far more profitable than filing a warranty claim.
