Oil Pressure Guage

I posted part of this in the Engine Forum. Really, wanted to post it here.

l990, 300, 5spd.

My oil pressure guage now only goes just to the L on the left hand side of the gauge. When, I turn the ignition switch to the on position, the guage moves the extreme left.

When, I start the truck the guage moves to the L position and stays there when the engine is shut down.

The needle used to go all the way to middle of the guage. I have checked the connection on the sensor. It's fine. No, chattering of the engine to indicate low oil pressure.

So, I'm thinking it has something to do with the wiring or other connections!

Any Ideas?

Take the wire off the sensor. With the key in run position, touch the wire to the engine block. The gauge should swing to the extreme left or right. Then take the wire off the engine block, and let it hang in the air. The gauge should swing the opposite way.

If this works, then the wiring and the gauge are good, the sensor is bad.

NOTE: If you have the fake oil pressure guage, when you do the above tests, your needle will only swing to the extreme left, and then to the middle of the gauge when doing the tests. If you have the real pressure gauge, the needle should swing to both extremes.

Franklin 2,

I did the test. I have a fake pressure guage. It went to the left and then to the middle.

And then after driving it around a little, the guage corrected itself and now registers again in the safe zone.

Thanks....Dave.
