Smashed Running board and brackets

I smashed my driver's side running board on a boulder off-road Saturday night. The first of the three brackets is totally bent and the other two are slightly bent. It's a lariat f-350 2004 model running board. I claimed it on my insurance, but I've got a $500 deductable. So, I might cancel that.

As an option before my body shop friend starts doing research...anyone know where to get these OEM parts cheap? I don't mind used as long as they are in new condition. I found nothing on ebay.

Man that sucks, sorry bout your truck. I have seen the aftermarket ones at those truck stop places like Trick up Trucks etc and they look nice (I think). Dont know where you would find OEM except Ford. Maybe a wrecking yard, if you get lucky and find a totaller with a good running board.
I almost crunched mine when backing into my yard, off of the road on to the lawn area. I didn't realize how long my truck was until I luckily got out and looked and saw how close I came.
I use my old 74 highboy now for that kind of stuff. No ground clearance issues there.

Try Powerstrokeshop.com. If you can't find the parts you're looking for, contact them and they'll help you out.

Do you have the regular running boards or the tubular style? If you have the tubular ones, you are better off replacing them with a good set of Westins. They don't hang so low and they are a little beefier. They work better for careless door opener type people too. Not to mention how much cheaper (probably) they will be than OEM.

If you just want the running boards, I have a 05 F250 Lariat that I pulled them off as soon as I bought it brand new (22 miles). I just don't like the look. Mine is a Supercab, not sure which you have. They are just sitting in my garage. Oh yeah, they are grey. If your interested, lemme know.

Mine are the stainless tube type. I'll look at the powerstrokeshop. I may be able to fix the bracket and nose of the board where it's indented. hmmm

Check Ebay. They are available there all the time and a lot are new OE or take-offs.

If the difference is only $48 / year, that's great. Depending on the state and insurance company, that difference can be very high.

Also, I would think twice before filing ANY claim. The claim carries on your policy for years as a claim, whether you are at "fault" or not. Often, a claim where the delta between the loss and the deductible is modest, the long term cost in increased premiums can nullify itself very quickly in potentially increased premiums.

The deductable is $500 but the coverage is for $1 million. Anyway...they will just cancel the claim if I find that the parts are below the deductable.

I'm going to try my friend's body shop computer pricing system first...then I'll look for some other options, I guess.

Buying the running board new from a Ford dealer through your friend would be your best bet. Body shops always get a better deal on parts [usually 30% off], than repair shops.
If you do an INTERNET search you'll probably find it a little cheaper, but you have to factor in the shipping cost.
As an option on trucks not equipped with running boards as standard equipment they run over $400 dollars for the pair, so be prepared.
