Thinking about replacing my stock exhaust into three inch all the way down. just wondering whos done it themselves and the materials/money it took to get it done.
Thanks any help appreciated
I assume you have no turbo. I ran true duals with 3" into 5" chrome stacks. I have 2 flowmaster #40s and a set of glasspacks shoved down the stacks to keep er quiet but mean. Without the flowmasters it was flat out the best sounding exhaust you ever heard but it rattled your brains in the cab so I had to put em on. Now its about right, sounds real good but the radio sounds good too without the constant drone on the back window.
If you dont want stacks you could run it out the back w/ true duals for about $250 at a shop not counting muffler cost. At the end I was looking at about $250 for my exhaust, I got the stacks for $15 and the mufflers for $50 off a friend or it would have been more. Just take it to a shop and save yourself the headache and cost.
I dont suggest flowmasters if you dont have stacks, but I needed the muffling. Some good long glasspacks will quiet it down plenty or even better, get a turbo.
Hey you dont have a pic of your stacks on your truck.....Im wanting to do that to my 88 dullie....but dont know what it will look like.... Or if I want to do a single 6" or larger stack. anything will help....thanks
I'm planning on using Auto-Jet's 3" manifold-back system. Just under $300 delivered to my door. Mandrel bends, true 3" diameter all the way thru, and a high-flow low restriction muffler. Great package. If you want to see it, go here:
my muffler/exhaust guy, did me some 3inch for $180.
I drove to his shop (20miles) with just a downpipe, and gee... at 2,900rpms it was kinda noisy :P Turned a few heads at least.
I dunno what kinda muffler, but It was 3inch all the way through, and you could see right through it.... I woulda been cheaper than $180, but I had him do a lil welding/workin on my downpipe and crossover pipe.
took him about 45minutes to do the whole job. For the time and money spent, I don't think I would have bothered doing it myself.
