gross vehicle weight

the door jam tag on my 79 f-250 says my GVW is 7400lb/3356kg. i want it to be higher. what constitutes an increase in a vehcile's GVR? more leaf springs, for one i'm sure. but do the axles and the frame come into play when defining a GVW? any help is appreciated!

All you have to do is look at an f350. Heavier frame, more springs, larger differentials, larger rims and tires (sometimes dually).

The highest GVW from the factory is 7900lb/3583kg for a '79 F250 Regular Cab. The difference between that and yours is all in the rear springs.

BBB are you sure on that 7900 lbs being the highest on a F-250?
my 1975 F-250 camper special shows 8100 lbs. is it just the diffrence in years and springs?

my 76 f-250 camper special says 8600lbs

but part of the gvw is determined by what you can stop, the camper specials have dual piston caliper front breaks and heavy drums in the back

I'll have to go back and look at the Camper Special models.

Well I looked at the Camper Special models and they seem to have the same maximum GVW as the Regular Cabs could have.

Here's the breakdown for max. GVW for the F250 Regular Cab including the Camper Special:

'73 - 8100lb.
'74 - 8100lb.
'75 - 8100lb.
'76 - 8000lb.
'77 - 7900lb.
'78 - 7900lb.
'79 - 7900lb.

Only problem is, it doesn't agree with what you got.

So much for advertising.
