Hi, this is for a 73 Ranchero with a 302, auto tranny and recently installed brand new edelbrock intake and holley carb with vac secondaries and electric choke. Yestersay while driving it the idle got stuck kinda high, around 1500 rpms. So today I decided to try and fix it thinking its nothing big. Now I start the car and warm it up and its idling around 1200 and I can back out the idle speed screw all the way and it doesn't help, I then checked for binding and could not find any, I also checked the choke. I then stomped it realy quick to bring revs up to see if they would go down and now it hangs at about 2000rpm. I've also checked for vac leaks with no luck, can anyone here shed some light on this? The carb has been fine for the few months its been on and now this out of nowhere.
Thanks in advance.
If you turn the linkage by hand back toward closed does it change?. Also check your float setting to make sure it's not too high. The only other thing I can think to check is you fast idel linkage (on the choke side) to see if something is hanging up.
OK I went back out and disconnected the throttle cable and started 'er up, still the same prob and I couldn't push the throttle closed to lower the idle, which didnt surprise me since the cable has a strong spring on it, but ya gotta try!
So next I went back to the choke and loosened it and turned it towards the less choke mark and then past it to basically disable the choke, and then the throttle arm moved closed a little bit all of a sudden, so something there is hung up. Restarted the motor and it barely idled since I turned back the screw so much b4, so I turned it back up and everything seems fine now. My choke may need some work but I will worry about that when it gets colder if I really need the choke at that point. Thanks for the advice.
