Well, after months of fighting a 1151 code and misfiring I finally broke down and took it to a mechanic. It took him a while but he determined, that the lean code was due to a faulty bank 2 O2 sensor. It wasn't dead it was just putting out bad data. He also tested the other O2 sensors and found that they are slow to react, and basicly showing there age. He is recommending replacing them.
One hand it would be easy to just have him do it, but I know that it will probably cost me about $250 to have that done. He uses Ford sensors and said the price is over $100.00 each. I'm pretty sure that I can replace the sensors myself. I know that there is a special wrench to do this, and even if I can't rent one, I would still be money ahead to buy one.
Is there anything special to replacing these things? I'm assuming it would be a good idea to disconnect the negative battery cable first. Also, what is a good brand to get. I see that autozone has Bosch for about $60 a pop, or Beck Arnley for $90. The mechanic I took the truck to said he prefered using the Ford brand, and that you don't want to use cheap sensors.
I had the mechanic replace the O2 sensors with Ford parts, he charged me $85.00. I would have to pay $102 at the dealership, so the cost difference covered the labor. Truck runs good now.
