does anybody have a idea on what to do about a gas tank for a 77 f-250 high boy? they do not make a after market tank that i can find i have a couple of behind the seat tanks but i really dont want to do that ive stripped this truck and sand blasted the frame and everything rebuilt and improved a 360 tranny everything but i cant come up with a tank the frame is 26 inches inside now i think chevy had a tank that fit between theoutside of the frame and the box any body have suggestions??????????
75250 highboy not stock
77250 highboy almost done
79 bronco funnn
someone said K-5 blazer tank works real good but I have not seen one instaled in a highboy to know for sure. I am going to need one also on one of mine so if you do find anything that works really nice post it! right now I got an old ford car tank straped under there at a angle but it is now leaking from the axle getting a little to cozy with it. the only drawback to havin' a highboy no gas tank space! unless of corse you are satisfied with just a seat tank which won't get you far in one of these beasts!
Areotanks.com has a 32 or so gallon tank for around $400 that fits the narrow frame. If you find a tank that fits from another truck please let us know, it should be much cheaper. $400 seems like a lot of money - I have been meaning to go to the junk yard and start measuring frames from other vehicles but have not found the time.
I don't know how much narrower the frame on the high boy is but, I put an 86 32 gallon tank in my 77 150 and the tank was a couple of inches narrower than the stock tank. Maybe an idea for you.
I think a big Bronco tank will fit I put one in my 74 half ton 4X and it had about an inch and a half clearence on both sides it was a 32gal. out of a 78 it was a easy fit had to adapt a few things. Hope this helps. Leadmic

wildebeast,
You might check with a place called Obsolete Ford in Nashville, Georgia.
Their catalog says they have them for 135 bucks..
Their phone # is : ( 229 )686-2470
( 229 )686-5101
The website is at obsoleteford.com
Ok heres the deal I have a 73 crewcab 2wd with the narrow frame just like the highboy frame I.E. 28 inches between the rails. I also have a 74 f-100 4x with the wide frame that I installed the 78 bronco tank in so I got the tape out and started to mesure. And the bronco tank is 3/4 of an inch too wide. But if you were to take a piece of bar stock the same with of the tank and dent the tank in a little it could be made to fit. The good thing about this tank is its 32gal the fill spouts are in the correct place and the sender works with the stock fuel gauge.
