95 F150 302 sputtering, missing, hesitating when cold.
I have a strange problem, my 95 F150 302 doesn't want to run well when cold. This problem is fairly new. I had a bracket short out a fuel injector wire, which I found and fixed. After this problem the engine idles rough, and when engine is cold, it sputters and pings horribly bad like it's running on three cylinders. After about 10-15 minutes it seems to clear up. I have changed out the fuel injector that had shorted out to no avail. I have also changed the EEC thinking the shorted fuel injector wire damaged the computer, to no avail.
Has anyone had a problem like this? Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.
Start by pulling any codes stored - go to fordfuelinjection.com and learn how to get codes - then clear the computer memory by disconnecting battery and let it relearn the drive strategy. (you may have already done this but possibly not in the proper sequence).
Have you pulled and changed plugs since this happened- they could be badly fouled and causing missing when cold? Check for damaged/arcing wires when running with hood open at night to see if one is shorting out to ground.
How long since last tuneup?
Have you pulled fuel pressure since you replaced the fuel injector?
Some thoughts to ponder. Good luck.
