A buddy of mine has a 78 Ford with a 400ci that just blew up. he is looking to put another motor in the truck. What would be the best to go with? The truck is an automatic, but i am not sure what tranny it has. A guy we know has a rebuilt 351 modified he will sell for $500. Is that a good price and will it bolt up in this truck? Any insight much apreciated.

 

yes it is a good motor. and also it will bolt directly in. the only difference in the 351 modified and the 400 modified is the bore and stroke.

 

nope the only differece in a 351m, and a 400 is the stroke they have the same 4" bore.

 

One more reliable than the other? I have heard people say they dont like the 400 and is one easy to find parts/mod?

 

you will find that people don't like either one, if I HAD to take one it would be the 400 for the longer stroke. As far as parts availability it's the same for either one they are identical engines except for the crank, and pistons. both use the same intake heads, headers, carbs, distributors, waterpump everything.
