cold air intake.

people keep talking about putting a cold air intake in to gain hp, but can anyone describe exactly what they mean. I put a secondary 4in tubing running from behind the grille into the intake box, but is there more to it then that?

anyone have any pictures of theirs?

You have the right idea. There is a fad for all sorts of intakes, and in most cases the advantage of using them is for a higher flow air filter. Which makes no difference except at very high rpm. So if you don't rev the hell out of your engine what you have done is just fine. The idea of a cold air intake is a racers method of increasing the maximum amount of fuel/air mixture that they can cram into the engine. Correctly, because colder air is of smaller volume. For a normal vehicle, the problem with that scheme is that you have to heat up the air for the fuel to vaporize properly. Those racers don't care about fuel efficiency, drivability, economy or emissions. They will sacrifice all else for any slight increase in power. The average racing engine is not built for longevity so they don't reall care about raw fuel washing down their cylinder walls and diluting their oil because they seldom run more than a few hundred miles before they are torn down again.

I have the FIPK from K&N. NO noticable difference.

all forms of cold air intakes are an abolutly joke on the 300. keep the stock air box, if u want cut a small slot around the bottom of the box and wrap the box in a heat reflective tape.

there are no TRUE "cold air intakes"...just open air. u need to be traveling on the highway at speeds over 60 for a true cold air/ram air effect.
