I am having a problem with my 99 F-350 that I am pretty sure has to do with a vacuum leak somewhere. My vacuum pump under the hood on passenger side runs constantly. Also, I cannot switch my blower to anything other than defrost. I changed both of the vacuum lines going to the front hubs as they looked pretty worn. I have also looked for obvious places where it could be leaking and can't find any. Does anyone have any ideas on where it could be or what is going on? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!
Hey pardner I have a 00 F250 that had the same problem in June 2005. At the time it had approximately 70,000 miles on it. Only the defrosters worked and I had to manually lock my hubs for 4WD. The vacuum pump was toast. The mechanic said that was unusual, but he had seen it a few times. It cost me $320.00 parts & labor to get fixed. Hope this helps...
I used a hand held vacuum pump from Auto Zone to check mine. Disconnect the hose going down to the hubs and pull a vacuum on them. If it holds then try the hose going to the blower. That way at least you'll know if it's a leak in the hubs, hoses or if it's possibly the pump. The hand held pump doesn't cost much and it's nice to have. Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I bought a new vacuum pump and installed it and it still did the same thing, so I have ruled that out. I will check on the hand pump. I read somewhere that someone was having the same problem and it was the o ring in the hubs. I put on new hubs last year and worked fine, and continue to work fine but worth checking out. Thanks for your help!
