Torque Shift filter change
Has any one had the opportunity to change the external Trans filter on the torque shift tranny. If so are there any complications, watch out situation? Do I need to ad more tranny fluid, be prepared for drainage from the filter housing?

The biggest issue with the external trans filter is loosening the housing. If you use a breaker bar and socket it feels like the whole filter and bracket will break. I used an impact gun and it came right off. Fluid loss is minimal as the filter holds a cup or less. There is no mess as the filter housing drops straight down, you don't need to tip it. Apply some never seize to the threads when reinstalling and be careful not to cross thread it.

Drained removed the pan,pan filter and external filter and needed 10 quarts of that liquid gold. Getting the external loose was the biggest problem, used a piece of angle jamed between it and the front harmonic balancer to brace it and get it off

external torqshift filter
I changed mine. Was a lot harder to get off than I thought it would be. Used a 1/2 inch socket wrench too. The threads seemed very coarse on the cannister, otherwise no problems. Just put in the new filter and screw it back on. Mine took about 7.5 qts after draining the pan. No real problems, no harder than a routine oil change. I like the idea of putting something on those threads. I used tranny fluid, that's all I had. Plus, I won't be leaving it on too long. Going to drain and change again at 45,000 since only about one half of the fluid comes out by draining the pan.
