I noticed the IP timing mark is turned past the housings mark about 3/32" toward the passengers side. Does this seem like a lot of advance, it does clatter a bit loud.
This pump is not the original, so whoever replaced it might not have ever had it timed. It hasn't been turned up or anything, judging from all the seal coating on all the screws isn't broken.
Any thoughts?
The marks on the pump to housing are only accurate if it is the original pump from the factory. Turning the injection pump 1/16" to either side (measured at the pump to housing flange marks) that's about 4 deg. To pax side is advancing to drvrs side is retarding, engine off for all adjustments and tighten nuts on IP before start.
You might try retarding 1/32" - 1/16"..........too far advanced can burn off glow plug tips.
