...My 05 has a maf and a push in plastic control with a yellow button for filter reset..
That brings up another question... What is that clear bulb with the yellow button do? You'll have to forgive me, the dealer still hasn't sent my owner's manual.
PSTRANG, The Maf sensor is small and square. It mounts on the housing after the filter and before the turbo inlet...My 05 has a maf and a push in plastic control with a yellow button for filter reset..What year is your truck
The Yellow button is your air filter minder. If your air filter is clogged and your turbo sucks too much of a vacume, the filter minder will trip a light on your dash.
My 2005 (12/04 build date) does NOT seem to have a MAF sensor. Only an intake air temperature probe and the filter minder. I've heard of later 2005s having MAF sensors, but mine does not.
So how/why is the MAF sensor optional for the PCM/computer?
I've given up on AFE... I've tried calling and emailing them several times with no response or help. So I'm just gonna go bakc to the stock system and hope for something better in the future.
Also with regards to the guys with the 05's... from what I been able to find out thru Ford and the dealer only the 06 models have this problem, I guess they changed something with the EGR sensor in 06.
So, does anyone wanna buy a gently used AFE Stage 2 system with a ProGaurd 7 Filter?
Sorry guys been out of town, got new filter from AFE and same problem, CEL on withn 15 miles. After numerous phone calls I finally got thru to Micheal at AFE and was told that out of the few thousand kits out and in use there are about 50 that are having the same problems as mine. He told me that this is on the top of their priority list and they are working on it, it is truck dependent for some reason. He said they would swap out and refund difference to go to a Stage 1 kit if I choose or as soon as they get a fix they will send replacement parts. I told him I am ok with waiting but they need to better inform me of progress via email or something, he said they would. So anyway the saga continues.
I wonder if you can swap the MAF's between the '05 and '06 trucks? I know that would be a little extreme. But, some of the people with '06 trucks are going to be playing with programmers and running serious HP soon (I'm sure some already are). This means they are going to be needing a viable option for intakes. The AFE is a nice system... So, this question might come up again in the near future.

Something is a little fishy though. My 2005 (12/04 build date) does NOT have a MAF sensor. So does that mean my PCM code is entirely different than 2005 that DOES have a MAF sensor? I think ALL the 2006's have MAF sensors. Strange for my truck though. Hummm, maybe it's a little advantage here and I won't ever get a CEL with the AFE stage2?
I have an 05 E350 that I made a nice 4" Al. inlet tube that has the sensor mounted in the same position as stock. It only took a few seconds after sart up for the cel light to come on.

Maybe, even though yours is a '05, it's motor was a left over '04 motor w/ no MAF?? Since it was made so early in the production year??
The stock donnalson air filter is a great design and is proven technology. Any performance gain by aftermarket filters and intakes happens at higher RPM's which many of us never see for any length of time (3,000 rpms).
Look at the websites and literature and you will see. The 6.0L motor is so highly computerized that certain aftermarket parts really throw it off and really do not offer "real-world driving benefits".
The stock system filters incomming air better than anything out there and no maintaince is needed (cleaning or oiling). Getting dirt into your intake is a real problem and just waiting for Ford to deny your warrenty.
With all the sensors this motor has on it... go back to stock and enjoy your truck.... I am and I have 59,000 miles on my 2003 Excursion 6.0L PSD!!!!!
I have the same issue with my 2005 Excursion 6.0L (9/29 build date)..yes the day before the end. I didn't think that was a good location for the MAF sensor...for one thing my coolant overflow reservoir sits right on top of the connector. Please keep us informed...I will contact AFE tommorrow. Maybe just the late 2005 and new 2006 have the MAF??
I spoke with AFE's Tech Support guy today. He confirmed what you all were saying. He said that by Monday they will have the final results back on their 3,000+ mile testing of the new location of the Mass Airflow Sensor. He said that it would be about three weeks before they could produce the new molds and begin to ship. I am number 109 on the list to get the new intake tube. They have sold 48,000 of these and only 109 of us have called in with the problem.??
He did say that it affected all years. The only thing in common was that it was a Ford and 6.0L. They are locating it on the opposite side and closer to the turbo to best imulate the normal operating flow voltages from the factory settings. This will be better also since the current location places it right under the overflow reservoir and it is a tight fit. So best case it will be a month. He said the official company stance is that we should put the factory back in (as the error code could mask another) but said he has spoke with many who have had no operating abnormallities due to the increased air flow.
.... but said he has spoke with many who have had no operating abnormallities due to the increased air flow.
Well, except, contrary to advertisements, a decrease in fuel economy. Most likely because of significantly higher boost pressures under similar operating conditions (10 psi increase over stock!). Again, my 2005 truck has no MAF. A temperature probe sits in it's place.
I'm contemplating removing mine. I can hear all 'those' guys saying, "...I told you so.."
