1964 ford vs chevy/gmc

Hey this iks kind of a wierd topic. I've owned both trucks. Which one do you think was built better. I have taken both apart and say that the ford was built way better. I loved my 64 GMC stepside. But body wise it seemed that the fords panels were made out of thicker gauge steel. Its like they were bullet proof. My GMC was a good truck but rusted worse than my ford. When I took the ford apart the bolts were like new. They were driven in the same conditions also. I'm not bashing chevys. I loved that GMC. But I just wanted to know some peoples opinions on this. It is intersting to me. My 64 ford was a beast.

If the '64 GMC had the 305 V-6 in it, I would go with the GMC.

305 V6?
I have no personal experience with a '64 Ford, but I believe every word you said!

... There was a 305 V6.

It was a mother of an engine too...
Although not as much as the V12 (2 V6's bolted together).
350 pffft... My favorite GM engine has to be the mighty 702 V12

It was GMC only, not in the Chevy pickups. Here's more:

Actuallyboth my trucks had 1977 ford/chevy engines in them. I had a 1977 305 v8 in my GMC, and I was building a killer 1977 400 v8 ford. It was actually ironic having the same year engines in both. The ford had the 292 in it that I kept and was eventually going to rebuild. The GMC just came with the 305. It actually wasnt a bad motor. Needed valve job and timing chain cover gasket. Stupid stuff like that.

They weren't little. Actually about as big and heavy as a big block Chevy.

Very first 4 wheeled vehicle I EVER drove was that 305 V-6!!! I was about 10 years old and I remember the clutch was INCREDIBLY stiff. Couldn't really stall it though with the granny gear.

It performed very much like the Ford I-6..............ran outta breath very quickly.

Lost me on that one, Nick

Do you mean physically large? I'd think it would be shorter than an Inline...

Do you mean large because of the cubes??? It's the same displacement as the 300 I6.

One thing that GMC motor shows is that the pistons don't care how they're arranged to make torque.
