Block heater

Storing my 98 4.6 outside this year and was wondering what to do with the factory block heater. How long can, would you leave the heater plugged in?Hours, weeks etc. What else is good to know about storing a 4.6l.For instance like the 5.0l will the rear main seal leak from sitting after a few seasons?Things like that.
thanks

I wouldn't leave the block heater plugged in at all.

Make sure the antifreeze is good and don't worry about leaving the block heater plugged in unless you may want to use the truck during really cold weather.

Where are you located, up in the minasota area and really cold areas you will need it, here in Colorado where I am from it usually does not get below 0 so I would not use it. of course with good antifreeze like oldsub86 said is a must. places where thwy use them they only plug them in overnight. If I were to leave the truck parked for a while I wouldn't worry about it and then when you do want to use it plug it in 12 hrs before then go on your way.
