The '48 F-5 239 flathead Radiator? IS it supposed to be 3 or 4 core. My existing one is three, is it supposed to be a 4?

Mine are all 3 core rads. The thing holds 2 gallons of coolant by itself. If the engine is clean and the radiator is clean it will cool whatever you push thru it. I had mine re-cored 5 years ago -and it was the best money I ever spent. Truck will idle all day long and never overheat. Long hard mountain runs will see the temp go up a few degrees, but never spikes to HOT.

Point is, the stock system is fine unless you're seriously abusing the whole thing - IF it is clean and free of calcified crud.

Original 48-52 chassis catalog shows 8RT 8005-C for 48-51 F-4,5,6 (also used for extra cooling for F-1,2,3), then shows 8RT 8005-D for extra cooling for 48-51 F-4,5,6.

These are for 239 c.i. trucks.

279/337 c.i. BIG trucks used different radiators.
