I have an 81 F-250 with a gas 460 engine. I'm trying to install a coolant heater to help ease those cold morning starts. Has anyone installed one of these on their truck? If so, what steps did you take to do it? I'm confused, as I still don't know much about my truck.
A few more questions:
1. I have two hoses on my heater, one goes to the top of the engine block and the other goes to the fan housing. Which hose is on the suction side and which isn't?
2. Where's the engine drain plug, since I'll need to flush the coolant?
If someone can give me some specifics on installing one of these heaters, I would really appreciate it.
The antifreeze goes out the intake and into the water pump. So you need to install the heater in the hose to the water pump, with the flow directed toward the pump. To drain the antifreeze, I usually just remove the lower radiator hose, it makes a bit of a mess, but gets the job done quickly.
