well diesel prices have been beat to death on here. so why not a little more huh?
at what point is it no longer economical to drive your truck? (like it really is right now) but at what point will you either sell it or seek alternative means?
i had a great running accord that got 20 mpg i sold for 500.00. what a dummy i was.
I cannot complain about mine. It is getting somewhere between 17 and 18 mpg. I feel safer in it than in an econobox. Just too may idiots on the road these days. I will just pay the price.
i ride my 4 wheeler as much as i can, but its a little hard to pull a gn trailer with it! Really though with all my tools being in my truck i cant spend all my time toting tools between 2 diff vehicles so my truck is pretty well what i drive 99% of time. Bio diesel is coming into our shop soon!
Our big diesel trucks get close to 20 mpg combined, and a little over on the hwy. Where's the incentive to drive a boring, crappy little econobox? I'll drive my pride and joy.
Not quite getting 20. On a good day when I try, 19...but usually around 18, which isnt that much of a difference. Mind you, that's mostly city. I love my truck.
I drive my truck for work. 96 E350 diesel. There is no way to do without it. I just pass the cost on to the customers. I drice my Expedition at night. They pay for that too.
Well, i need my trucks for my job, but i do have an alternative. When i don't need the pickup, i've got a Mercury Grand Marquis to run. I feel pretty safe in it, and it gets mileage in the low-mid 20's on the highway, and is real fun to drive, I wanted a mustang, but bought this instead. Not the same, but it will still out run my trucks, rides smoother, it just won't pull a 5 ton trailer.
I don't drive a lot anymore, between all the vehicles, maybe 25k a year, so the elevated price of fuel hasn't bothered me too much there. However, i use about 6,000 gallons of off road diesel in my logging equipment a year, so that is going to hurt this winter.
I'm lucky enough to have a company truck to drive, and a company card to fill it up! The only bad part is its a 1/2 ton chevy. 10k more miles and I'll get a new truck...now at least their buying us 3/4 ton fords but no diesel.....Still its nice not to have to pay for the fill up's!
A large percentage of my miles are billable. I still actually can pay for the fuel at the rate I charge (.50/mi), so it's not killing me yet to drive it, but I plan my grocery-getting a little better these days.
I too am fortunate enough to not have to drive an extreme amount (avg. 9K / year) and about 1/3 of that is billable. No way am I going to downgrade to a car. Like Max, I'll drive a motorcycle part time if gets to that (and YES- A damn good excuse to buy one!!) I'd be doing that now if I didn't have to haul kids to school in the morning. Plus, I can work @ home a day or two a week if necessary.
I AM seriously considering selling the wife's Honda CRV and getting a Jetta TDI. The CRV only gets about 23 MPG - disappointing, I was expecting more. That makes more sense than selling my truck (which I WILL NOT DO), especially since my truck gets about 18, soon to be more .....
BTW, Max, I finally ordered those gauges and exhaust, so I'll probabaly be contacting you soon for help - thanks!
I've been getting around 17-18 mpg in my PSD so don't see a big need to change to a car that can't haul what I need to haul. I dang sure drive less during the fall and winter months anyway so I'm hoping for some relief in fuel prices by spring. ( I know, I know....it ain't gonna happen but it gives me something to look forward to until they shred my dream come springtime.) Besides, I've got a 1 year old baby boy that falls asleep to the rumble of the truck making it MUCH easier to travel while he's zzzing. Can't get a 4-ton babysitter AND improved mileage so I'll take the trade-off. And, oh yeah, I LOVE MY TRUCK!
