front end buzz

this week my lovely green aero, has a new noise. It is a light but definite buzz that emanates from the right front of vehicle. Sometimes it buzzes when I apply brakes, sometimes it stops buzzing when I apply brakes. Pads changed, no change. Inspected wheel bearings, they look perfect. No evidence of tire rub.

I remain, vehicularly challenged in az.

Ken:

I assume you have 2WD since you said you inspected wheel bearing. Am I right? Also, do you have a 3.0L or 4.0L. If it's a 3.0L, that buzz might be coming from your AC compressor. Just a thought.

Yes Sir, 2wd. buzz is more pronounced in left curves and will stop when light braking is applied. Noticed today when driving to Sedona that buzz is feelable in steering wheel. 4.0 liter engine. I actually bought new wheel bearings, but the old ones looked PERFECT under a bright light careful inspection. this is another screwy one. I'm thinking of switching tires to see if noise goes from right front to left front.

I would go ahead and switch tires, see what happens.

I am not sure what you mean by buzz? Does it sound more electrical (the blower motor (HVAC) is in that area or is it more mechanical? (Could still be the HVAC). On second thought, try driving with the HVAC off and see if the sounds happens.

I think you might have made an emergency stop lately and ground a flat spot on the tire. Anyway, that's what happened to me one time. Had to replace a perfectly good tire with less than 5K miles on it.

ken, have you checked the control arm from the rack for any play? mine had some play in it and was wearing the tire oddly creating some noise. also it would pull under braking, slightly at first, then more severely as play became excessive.

chances are it's tires, but at least you'd know the reason then.
