I'm in the mood to play with a mod or two, and would like to lower my EGT's if possible.
I have 2000 F350 crew cab with 83,000 mi, a Bully Dog 75 chip, guages, 4" down pipe, and a sonax shift kit, and Syn trany fluid. Every thing else on the truck is stock.
I drive a company car during the week, and my truck is the family toy hauler, so I would like to do a mod or two that would help reduce my EGT's while towing our trailer in the mountains.
Upgrading the intake will be the easiest way to bring the EGT's down some. If you meant 4" downpipe only, then finishing out the exhaust with 4" will also help.
yes, a 4'' system with a free-flowing straight-through muffler will lower the egt's by about 200-300* check my gallery, i have a "kwik" filter- www.fleetfilter.com part number 46637. it is awesome.
Thanks Cookie, as for the 4" pipe I have it all the way down, but still have the muffler. I have heard that removing the muffler and going strait will help, and that the turbo will like not having the extra back pressure?
All engine are air pumps, a diesel is even more extreme as it will use 8-10 times the amount of air as compared to a same size gasser. AIr is life to a diesel and it will lower EGT's accordingly and allow you to use the chip more too! Finsih the exhaust, if you still have the stock muffler it's a choker, your post wasn't saying for sure if you had the stock muffler or the Bully Dog muffler. If you have the BD muffler leave it alone, their mufflers are hollow and that makes a little restriction but overall changing it will not help much! Next get the intake liek the AFE Stage II Pro Guard 7, out flows everything out there and stops the dirt the 4 layer filters let thru too. Give us a call if you have any questions or need any products, we will be glad to help you.
two other things you can do that are very inexpensive that will help some are the "crank case vent bypass" mod and removing the AIH (air intake heater) grid. do a search for "CCV mod" or "crank case vent", there is a thread about the AIH on the first page right now...
Expensive routes are water/methanol injection, about $450-$750 and a bigger better ball bearing turbo, about $1600-$2300...ouch!.....bucks! The turbo might be the safest alternative. Water/methanol will cool about 100-200 degrees. Fun stuff!
I would suggest the Walker BTM, Big truck muffler, it is a straight thru 3.5 and that combined with my Ford AIS intake dropped my EGT's 100-150 degrees just around town, can't wait to see what it does for my EGT's while towing my 8K+ TT. I would also suggest the CCV mod for sure. I have come up with a great CCV mod that I have made for several folks on the dieselstop.com.
