steering bracket
Just finished putting the ECI disc brake kit in my 49F1 . It actually stops now imagine that !!! Next I want to do the Toyota Steering box thing . I havnt found anyone that makes a mounting bracket for a 49 yet , anyone know of any ??

I am running the toyota box on my 49. I fabricated my own brackets as I installed the box up in front of the axle instead of the original location.
I think that the brackets for the 53-56 are close enough to work. Read this link;

bracket
thanks bobby we talked about this a month or so ago . So far I cant find one for a 49 . I am planing on doing this with the truck fully assembled so i need a bracket that works . I am not going to have a whole lot of room to measure and bend etc . Thanks

I emailed Bobs and they werent all that helpful . They said their bracket was for 53 up and i might have to modify it . Actually as long as its close i could probably use it , just dont want to spend any unnecessary cash !!

There's bound to be someone on here that has used a bracket to mount the box in the original location.
I know what you mean about spending money, my checkbook controls my progress (or lack thereof)

I'd expect the only thing that you might have to do is redrill the frame to match the 53-56 box bolt pattern (3 holes) at least with the mount Mid Fifty sells since it bolts to the inside of the frame rail. May also need to enlarge the hole for the sector shaft some since you have to do that on the 53-56 frame too. Make a paper pattern of the mounting holes and sector shaft opening off the new mount and box as well as the steering shaft axis. Place it on the outside of the frame using the shaft axis and sector shaft hole to locate. Don't have to be super **** about the rotation, the U joint will take care of any minor misalignment. Centerpunch and drill the mounting holes. bolt the mount and box in place. I found it much easier to bolt the box to the mount and install it as an assembly. When you bolt on the box, you'll find the box mounting surface sticks past the mount ~ an 1/8" under the sector shaft. Just grind it off flush so the mount will sit tight against the frame. It's really a piece of cake to do.

AXracer thanks for your reply . I guess the 53-56 box mounts in the same place as the 48-50 ?? and the frames are the same from 48-53 ?? If this is the case it should be pretty easy to do . How do you like the steering with the toyota box ??

I have not examined an earlier frame, but as long as the frame is straight (parallel to the length of the truck), not tapered in or out where the box mounts there shouldn't be a problem, but Mid Fifty is real good about returns if there is a problem. I'd swear the Toy box was designed to be used on our trucks, it works that well.
