351W build up help...

Well... I bought a 1989 F150 with low oil pressure... I took the 351W out and put my 302HO from my bronco into it... This leaves me a 351 that needs help..

I am going to re build the bottom end, but want advise on what to do for more power...

Its going into my 89 bronco... has MAF!!! Running a 5 speed, 4.56 gears and 35" tires...

1) heads... what to get... dont really need them to for top end, so up to 3500rpms or max 4000rpms is ok... Would almost prefer a set of iron heads, but dont really know if there are any good enough iron heads available..

2) Cam... looking at this one : http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=2314

Dont have my heart set on this either and am fully open to advise... dont want choppy idle, use the truck for lots of four wheeling...

Intake: kept my 302 upper and am going to port 351 lower... should be ok for what I want...

Throttle body: May upgrade, but will see how it goes with stock I think... advise??

Exhaust: long tube heades into a singe 3" with wide open magnaflow muffler...

If I have missed anything please let me know!! Am looking for good ideas!!!

C'mon guys, we've got a bunch of 351W experts here. You must have some advice for Bob...excuse me, Mr. Bob!

If you have your heart set on iron heads, there are some good aftermarket ones available. Dart makes them, for one, and I believe World Products does as well.

If you want to stay with stock iron heads, you could go with E7s, or GT40P heads. Since you're planning to put headers on it anyway, you can get P-specific headers for those. Here's a little info on the E7s:

http://www.mustangcentral.net/tech/e7.html

and on the GT40Ps:

http://www.stangpro.com/html/article...les/gt40p1.htm

That cam looks like it might work okay for what you want, but you might want to consider converting to a roller.

Hope this helps a little.

I'm building 351 right now with p heads - flowtech longtubes fit o.k. The drivers side has no issues, the passenger side only has issues really with one plug, but with 90 degree boots it should be fine. I'll have to slip the plug socket over the plug and use a wrench to turn the socket to get to plug out of that one cylinder. It's hard to build a p headed windsor without getting too much compression for a street/truck engine. I found a set of speed pro forged pistons that kept the compression about 9.7:1 with my over bore. I'm using those pistons and a comp nx264hr camshaft, this is a nitrous grind, but I'm using it because it hangs the exhuast valve open a little more, which will bleed off a little compression so I can run cheap gas. It has a 0.512 lift which helps fill the cylinders especially at lower rpms where truck engines run in.

Nice tips there, bigblue...thanks!

I found the reverse problem with my headers. The passenger side fits just fine with plenty of clearance, it was the driver's side that was tight. I had to re-arrange some tubes anyway for steering box clearance, so I modified that header quite a bit.
