Cool Fuel quality

hi guys
i am from Iraq, i have Ford Explorer 1995. i have a problem and i hope you can help. the problem is as following:
the fuel is cheap here (about 3.33 cents for 1 liter) but the problem is its very bad quality and hurts the engine, and made all the car types run as bad as you can imagine. my question is do you know anything that can be used with the diesel we have to make the engine run better?

Thanks

hi ford390gashog, thanks for the advice. i am not sure about the cetane boost but changing the fuel filter is a usless process. i change it every 2-3 months and no changes.

thanks

I didn't know Explorers ran on diesel.

Wild idea....

Here in the states a lot of diesels are converted to run waste oil from fast food restaurants. Essentially these oils are vegetable oils that have had the junk filtered out of them. The biggest problem with this system is that vegetable oil needs to be preheated on cold days or it won't ignite in a cold engine. MAYBE, in Iraq, you don't have cold days??? Maybe you could run clean vegetable oil with out a cold start preheater?? I think some have been converted to cold start with a small tank of regular diesel and then they switch over to the main tank with vegetable oil, this eliminates the preheater. Maybe worth looking into.

I hear these cars smell real good while running, ummmm French Fries.

Otherwise I don't know much about what makes a diesel run well except using clean diesel fuel.

I bet that if you posted on the alternative fuel forum you would get some interesting answers.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

The problem with running SVO (straight vegetable oil) is that the fatty acid deposits build up inside the engine an eventually ruin it. You'd get maybe 10k miles out of a diesel running SVO.

I would really look into making your own biodiesel. There are companies here that sell the equipment to make it, but something tells me that you're not going to have much luck finding one in Iraq.

You could probably make your own mixer, though. There are probably 100 plans on the Internet for making one.

I wonder how readily available waste cooking is in Iraq.

I am living in the north, and sure we have very cold days (and very hot days too), so i don't think this SVO way will be a good idea. but thanks.

AndyM - you're killing me! You mean to say that the same trans-fatty acids that give us bad chloesteral, hardeneing of the arteries and heart attacks do the same things to engines? Wow, I never thought of an engine having a heart attack but I guess it's the same - no blood flow and the ticker stops ticking....

I would add to the SVO/WVO thread that the lubricating oil turns to the consistancy of shampoo or dish liquid soap from all the glycerin that makes it's way past the rings and into the crankcase.
Speaking from first hand experience here. It gets REAL stringy.
