oil pressure gauge

does anyone know if you can convert the stock gauge into a real moving gauge? can i just replace the sender instead of the stock one or do i need to remove the resistor in the circuit? i am tired of the idot gauge in there now.

I had the same question a while back and got no answer. If you figure it out, please let me know.

Both would be needed, provided you can source a proper sending unit and also locate the series resistor that causes the guage to read at the same relative position when the current pressure switch is closed.

I was going to do this on my old 93 Exploder years back, but the instructions sat on my desk for several years until I finally wore that truck out at 193K (tranny failure for the 3rd time).

Edit: Just looking at the 97 schematic, the above idea will work, however, it would sacrifice the OIL light (the RED one). In order to keep the warning light and to add analog meter function, it would be necessary to tee in the pressure sensor with the existing pressure switch, then run the appropriate electrical wires to/from the meter inside the cluster.

Not difficult, just a pain in the **** to locate an appropriate sender and tee, install them, and to run the wires (and clip at least one signal line in the dsah cluster).
