dual 600's

What would i need to run dual holley 600 cfm's and an even bigger question, would it be worth it? i'm planning on doing a rebuild for performance and usually mess around with fuel injection and am not very good with carbs. I recently obtained an 85 300. Any suggestions on cams as well. I have some ideas but more input is always nice. Thanx in advance

A very large bank account and 500+ cubic inches. Are you planning to drown the engine or run it, it is a truck engine after all.

dual holley 600's? Are they being bolted ontop of a weiand or what? Thats extreme over kill. You can put all the air in there you can get, but whats more impotant is how much air can get into the cylinders. The 300 heads don't flow well, so unless your taking your head off and taking it to a machine shop to get it ported and polished, and getting some bigger valves, you wont even need 1 600 cfm carb. Hell, most people here run 1 390 holley or a 500 edlebrock, and are very satisfied. I do remember someone running a 6 pack.

1. you'll need an offenhouser dual quad intake manifold
2. its not worth it remotely, even with a mildly built 300
3. summit comp and crane make truck cams, you want one with a idle-4500 performence band. (the 300 looses power after 3500)
4. 2 600 cfm carbs is over kill for a 300 horse 4.9, let alone a stock one with 145.
5. 1200 cfm of air would be ideal for a big block V8.

What exactly are you trying to achieve, full blown race engine or street engine?

Heck, I know some fellas running dual 600's on a 250ci inline engine, they also leave the line at 5000 rpm and spin it to 8000. Not something you'd wanna drive daily.

From a performance perspective, dual carbs are a good idea. However, it may become a tuning nightmare for someone that doesn't have the knowledge or cash to pay somone to tune.

Think smaller carbs if you wanna do a dual carb setup, also remember a single 4bbl would be alot less money to set up, easier to tune and give you about the same end result, if not better as with the dual carbs you could over carb it real quick.

I have never seen an offenhauser dual carb intake, would like too though, I do know clifford performance still sells them.

yeah, i see what ur saying, that'll definately be too much air. the reason i say this is because i can get the manifold and 600's from my brother for a mere 50 bucks, they're in good condition too. I'll just buy them and sell them on e-bay. so how about this, dual 390's. I'm plannin on this not being a daily driver...at all. Thanx for the input

I would do a pair of small 2 barrels before I did twin 600's.

My bad, I knew it was either clifford or offenhouser.

I tell you what, I will give you 60 for the intake and you can keep the carbs, then you can put that towards finding a single 4bbl intake.

Dual 390's would be closer to what your after, if not smaller carbs, as silver streak mentioned but it really depends on your HP/rpm goals.

I wouldn't doubt it if at one point in time offenhauser offered one, would be interesting to find out.
