I will have to change the lower rad hose on my 95 F-450 the engine has been changed in my truck it says 96 on the valve cover. Anyhow the hose on my truck looks like a 2 piece with a hose joining I assume thats what they call the fill hose.
Anyhow how hard is it to change this hose I have changed lots of rad hoses before but these rads have no rad caps so how do you fill the rad ?
How do you bleed the air out of the system ?
Do the new hose come with the spring inside or do I have to try wrestle the old spring out ?
The hose I will be looking at would be a Goodyear as thats what the parts store sells or I'am I better off going to Ford ?
when i got my lower hose from napa it already had the spring in it. ive been running that one for a few years with no problems im not sure who makes it.
to fill it just fill it at the tank with it running and let it run it will burp it self. it kinda takes a little bit of time for the tstat to open and get the whole block but nothing much on theese trucks.
If you want to burp it before you crank it you can pop the heater core hose off at the top of the water pump, but the de-gas bottle does a pretty good job on it's own. You'll want to watch the coolant level for a day or two as it will drop as the last little bits of air get free.
Thanks for the replys I'am going to order the rad hose tommorow its not something the local parts store keeps in stock I will be really surprised if they do have it in stock. There is alot of PSDs in the area but who knows how many of them have had to have their rad hoses changed.
Do I have to replace the fill hose too or is it good to go for another round with a new rad hose ?
I haven't had a hose failure yet I'am just doing preventative maintenance the lower rad hose looks like factory original which would be 95. I might aswell change the rad hose itself but if the fill hose isn't a uncommon failure part I will leave it be. I have a feeling the rad hose itself is going to cost me 50 dollars CND the fill hose would probably be another 30.
Its comming up on to winter so I want the cooling system on the truck to be up to snuff. With PSDs do I have to run additive I know with the old IDI I had to.
Thanks I will have to pick up a bottle from Ford I shouldn't have thrown out the bottle I had
I guess the PSDs are prone to the big C but from what I have been told not as bad. I will have to order the hose then I will pick up some new antifreeze or reuse the stuff thats in the rad now. I don't know why the lower rad hose didn't get changed when the engine was taken out which was done before I bought the truck.
