Ford automatic transmission 2001
Problem is the shift solenoid is bad, the code was taken at 3 tranmission shops and I was told @two (shops) I was told the problem is not the shift valves it is the the 3 nd gear that gone bad and strip and I would have to get a tear down .the problem is it will not shift int 3-4 gear it is now in safe mode! some one please set the record straight for me .BILL

There are a few different things that can cause no 3-4 upshift.
Do you know the actual code that was received when it was scanned?
If it was my truck I think I'd take it to your dealer rather than a transmission shop. Transmission shops usually want to sell complete rebuilds whether it needs it or not. Your dealer will probably diagnose it properly and if all it needs is a shift solenoid that's probably all they would sell you. At least that's how we do things where I work.
