I have an F350 4x4 Superduty Powerstoke 7.3 Ltr diesel.I would like to know what causes the the code P0500 Vehicle Speed Sens VSS Error? With this fault code, what are the symptoms? Thanks.

The VSS is the sensor in the rear differential. If it fails you would have an erratic, or non functional speedomoter, erratic/hard shifting (auto trans), and possibly a blinking O/D light.

Thanks for your response. Will it damage the truck to drive about 30 miles to get replacement part?

It shouldn't. The tranny is in "limp home" mode because of the lack of a speed signal, but it should not cause any damage to it.
