Wondering what to do......
With gasoline prices showing no signs of coming down and diesel higher than gas, Would it be wise to sell a Econobox car and buy a diesel truck and run it off Biodiesel? Since Biodiesel is alot cheaper to run and cleaner,Would'nt it be wise? I want a mid 90's F-2 or 350 Ext. cab with a long bed diesel (because of the biodiesel). I dis-like Camry's. Don't get me wrong, its a nice car,but It ain't what I like or want although it gets me from A-B.
Now this is what from I've seen. I'd like some real world facts about these trucks and the 7.3 which is all I can find. I don't really need a truck that heavy but I'd rather "have it and not need it then need it and not have it" And belive me,been there a few times. And whare is a reliable place to learn how to make biodiesel? I've looked on the internet and seen places but don't know how credible they are.
Sorry for the 20 questions,But I'd like to be educated before I make a move like this.
Thanks guys.

Get a diesel and run farm fuel in it. It's not illegal until you get cought, and how many people get cought! All my buddies around here have been doing it for a few years, and havent got cought, infact I dont see how you do get cought.
7.3's are good, my grandpas has 354,000 miles on it, and no major problems. Plus they sound freaky straight piped....with all the black smoke you'll be blowing around town you might be able to pick up some women for once!
I'd get an econo box, they get like 20,000mpgs and gas is cheaper than diesel.

First of all, make sure you think this thing through completely.
Do you know how to make bio-diesel? From your post I'm guessing not. Before you even look for a truck I would really recommend finding a source of free waste oil (that is the only way this scheme would work since a gallon of new veggie oil is $6.00 a gallon). Now make enough to run that truck for a week of your normal driving at 14 miles per gallon. This way you will know the weekly cost in time and effort to make the fuel you need. Then you can decide if it's worth it.
BTW, I've never made bio-diesel but making it was featured on "Dirty Jobs" last night on Discovery TV. That's the show where the host goes around and performs the most disgusting things imaginable that other people do for a living. Pumping out septic tanks, pest control, cleaning out a grease trap etc. I couldn't watch that episode but it makes you wonder what would be involved.
