More POWER
This is my first time in this forum, but I am a long time Ford fan. It's nice to see there is a place where we can all discuss the tuff-est trucks on the road!
Anyways my current rig is a 1994 F150 4x4 w/ a 5.0 and auto trans. I love her but i want more power! I think stock it's got 185hp, I want more like 250. I'm looking to upgrade air intake, exhaust, or what ever else might give this thing a shot in the arm. Any suggestions would be appriciated.
For 250 h.p., I'd get:Air Intake, headers, X pipe, flowmasters, a BBK intake manifold, and some Ford Racing GT 40 heads. Actually, the GT 40 heads alone should give 30-40 horses, but they run for around 1000 bucks **I think**. Get a cat back, cheap air intake, and them heads, and that might put you up to 250 h.p.
Always remember, horsepower costs money!
Now the other suggestions are mostly within my means. Someone mentioned headers and that was one of the things i wanted to do, but how does that work with emission controls. I have seen headers on all types of newer vehicles, but what has to be done with the O2 sensor or the air pump? My state dosen't check for catalytic convertors so do I need those? This truck just seems so stuffed up, you can tell it's got more to give, it just can't beath deep enough to do much.
Any other opinions on throttle body spacers? The only thing I've ever heard about them is they make a whistling noise, atleast the one my buddie had on his 5.4 did.
Lastly, does anyone know about performance programmers, or chips for this year ('94) F150.
Honestly, if you're going to spend a grand on a set of heads then there are better options out there that are close to that price range. For roughly $1200 you can get a set of Trick Flow heads, and a little more than that will get you a set of CNC'd AFR heads. GT-40's flow better than stock, but I wouldn't spend $1k on them, even if they were brand new.

If you dont want those cats and dont need them, toss them. Headers will give you good bang for your buck.

I love that white ford in your pics. Mine looks almost identical, except mines a 4x4 so it sits higher. That one looks to be a Lightning, right? Mine is a mono-white, short-box just the same and it has a very similar air dam. I like the look of those clear lites too. I was wondering how those would look on my rig, I have to get some.
Back to my original line of questions though, does anyone else have some knowledge about installing headers on my truck? What will happen if I remove some of the emissions equipment?
Thanks for all the help and keep it comin'.
When you go to remove the stock manifolds, give the bolts on both ends a generous coating of penetrating lubricant and let it sit for about an hour or so (go grab a beer, a bite to eat and throw a few water balloons at your neighbor's loud dog).
Next, you'll want to remove the thermactor stuff, pinch off the induction tube on the y-pipe, and plug the back of the heads where the cross-over tube tied in. Doing this will require you to take the upper intake off and drop the y-pipe.
Now, you can take the thermactor solenoids off and just tie in 10,000 ohm resistors in their place. Then sort through and take out the vacuum lines that are no longer needed.
Your done! Thats it. I know I didn't go into detail, but its mostly easy to figure out when you look at what your taking off. If you need help, just ask.
Doing this could range from a few hours, if your lucky, to a whole day. I definetly noticed a difference from removing this stuff.
