Question More POWER

Hello All,
This is my first time in this forum, but I am a long time Ford fan. It's nice to see there is a place where we can all discuss the tuff-est trucks on the road!
Anyways my current rig is a 1994 F150 4x4 w/ a 5.0 and auto trans. I love her but i want more power! I think stock it's got 185hp, I want more like 250. I'm looking to upgrade air intake, exhaust, or what ever else might give this thing a shot in the arm. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Sounds like you're on the right track. K&N mass air flow. A Magnaflow or Flowmaster exhaust. Also, try to install a throttle body spacer. That will help. Plugs. And don't over look the ignition coil. It's cheap and may yeild a little more spark. Also if you want, headers do wonders. These are just a few ideas. Most of the folks here could proably give you some better ideas.

From what I've heard from everyone on this forum, Throttle body spaces are useless, I wouldn't buy one.

For 250 h.p., I'd get:Air Intake, headers, X pipe, flowmasters, a BBK intake manifold, and some Ford Racing GT 40 heads. Actually, the GT 40 heads alone should give 30-40 horses, but they run for around 1000 bucks **I think**. Get a cat back, cheap air intake, and them heads, and that might put you up to 250 h.p.

Always remember, horsepower costs money!

Could also swap for 5.0 H.O. out of mustang put you close to 250 out the box.

Man you guys are qwick to help, I like it. Last post first, I would love to swap in a different motor, but that is a little more than I want to do. If I did swap engines I would want alot more than 250hp.
Now the other suggestions are mostly within my means. Someone mentioned headers and that was one of the things i wanted to do, but how does that work with emission controls. I have seen headers on all types of newer vehicles, but what has to be done with the O2 sensor or the air pump? My state dosen't check for catalytic convertors so do I need those? This truck just seems so stuffed up, you can tell it's got more to give, it just can't beath deep enough to do much.
Any other opinions on throttle body spacers? The only thing I've ever heard about them is they make a whistling noise, atleast the one my buddie had on his 5.4 did.

Lastly, does anyone know about performance programmers, or chips for this year ('94) F150.

Yes, throttle body spacers make better paper weights than HP. Headers (there are emissions appoved units), exhaust, CIA and underdrive pulleys...each will yeild noticeable gains in power.
Honestly, if you're going to spend a grand on a set of heads then there are better options out there that are close to that price range. For roughly $1200 you can get a set of Trick Flow heads, and a little more than that will get you a set of CNC'd AFR heads. GT-40's flow better than stock, but I wouldn't spend $1k on them, even if they were brand new.

Throttle body spacers wont work....heat spacers might. (manifold spacers). They'll make the runners a little longer (1-2") and yield some low-end torque.

If you dont want those cats and dont need them, toss them. Headers will give you good bang for your buck.

Blurry94,
I love that white ford in your pics. Mine looks almost identical, except mines a 4x4 so it sits higher. That one looks to be a Lightning, right? Mine is a mono-white, short-box just the same and it has a very similar air dam. I like the look of those clear lites too. I was wondering how those would look on my rig, I have to get some.
Back to my original line of questions though, does anyone else have some knowledge about installing headers on my truck? What will happen if I remove some of the emissions equipment?
Thanks for all the help and keep it comin'.

There are headers that work with your emission equipment. The summit truck headers is just one type I can think of off the top of my head, and there are others as well.

When you go to remove the stock manifolds, give the bolts on both ends a generous coating of penetrating lubricant and let it sit for about an hour or so (go grab a beer, a bite to eat and throw a few water balloons at your neighbor's loud dog).

My cat. was already gone when I got my truck(94 F150 w/302, MAF). Cutting out the cat. is the easy part. Removing the pump isn't hard either, if the top bolt doesn't snap like mine did. You will need a smog pump eliminator pulley to replace it or your belt won't have proper tension and may come off frequently(just bypassing with a shorter belt doesn't work most of the time). There are some really nice UPR brand ones for like $40-60 on ebay. You may be able to find a used one for less than that.

Next, you'll want to remove the thermactor stuff, pinch off the induction tube on the y-pipe, and plug the back of the heads where the cross-over tube tied in. Doing this will require you to take the upper intake off and drop the y-pipe.

Now, you can take the thermactor solenoids off and just tie in 10,000 ohm resistors in their place. Then sort through and take out the vacuum lines that are no longer needed.

Your done! Thats it. I know I didn't go into detail, but its mostly easy to figure out when you look at what your taking off. If you need help, just ask.

Doing this could range from a few hours, if your lucky, to a whole day. I definetly noticed a difference from removing this stuff.

Yep, about 1-2mpg better. I currently get around 18-20mpg with mixed city and highway driving.
