Quick question...oh and hi everyone...

1993 F150 Straight Six Automatic

Do I need to lift the motor to remove the oil pan? Rusted out and now the oil is bleeding through the rust...LOL

I just did this a couple of weeks ago on my 1990 Fl50 -300-Manual 5 sps.

My Haynes Manual gave me step by step directions.

Two helpful hints which I wish I had know about ahead of time, because when you try to get the oil pan out, after loosing it from the block, there just wasn't enough clearance to pull it out without fussing around for quite some time.

1--When you get it almost out, take a claw hammer and place the claw in the pan, pull down and it will pop right down. I assume you have a metal pan.

2--You're going to run into same problem trying to get it back under the block. I used a piece of 2x4 and a bottle jack, place it at the rear of the oil pan. Put pressure on the back of pan and it will slide forward and up.

Ofcourse, this only applies if you cannot get it out without the pan trying to fight you.

I used a FelPro Gasket and had to put it on the oil pan after I got it back in position under the block. A little bit of a hassle fishing the gasket under the oil pump to the rear of the pan. But, your pan will be clean, so the gasket will stay factory fresh.

yes, you do need to lift motor.

undo radiator shroud and set it on fan.

undo both motor mounts.

jack up engine.

wood blocks under motor mounts.

transmission mount also needs to be unbolted.

good time to put oil pump and a new oil pickup screen in.

these are my suggestions, in addition to haynes.

lots of post on this procedure.

When you jack up the engine, watch the clearance between the EGR valve and the Windshield Wiper motor or you WILL break the wiper motor.

Get the Felpro rubber one piece gasket. It comes with plastic install screws that help line up the gasket with the pan.

Does the felpro gasket require any RTV or any other sort of sealant?

Rubber gaskets usually don't require a sealer. Some sets have plastic bushings to hold the gasket in place during installation. Sealer may actually hurt installation as the sealer may make the rubber slippery and actually cause it to squeeze out during tightening.

No, sealer required. They have built in anti-torque washers to prevent over torquing and squeezing the gasket and causing a leak.

I'm using the Felpro gasket, so there is not separate rear gasket, just the rear of the gasket. So possibly a little RTV at the rear, got it.
