The original radio had a light, too. That may be your red/blue wire. The lights on the panel are fed and grounded from the same source. One thing you may want to check is your headlight switch. The switch sends the power and amount of voltage to the panel lights. Pull it and make sure its clean and that you haven't pulled a wire loose from its harness.
Sounds good.... I will check that.... had alot of trouble getting to it to get the dash off..... so could be something there....btw I have radio lights on LCD.....if the red/blue did ground what else could I do besides unhooking radio from it? The old fuse for the instrument lights was a 3 amp short fuse......the glass is all white so I replaced it with a clear one...... as far as I can tell its still good....Thanks for the help...
What I meant by the radio had a light is that when you turned your (original equip) radio on with the headlights on the tuner would light up using a bulb mounted above the radio.
I'm not sure about the red/blue wire. I still think its a power wire of sorts for the original radio - maybe someone else will have a better idea.
I still think your headlight switch or the plug to it is your problem with the indicator lights. Good luck.
Hey any idea how many of these bulbs is the 2 notch twist in and how many are the fuse looking bulbs??? Don't have manual with me now.... went to advance auto online and it shows both types for the dash.....Would like to pick some up before I head home........Thanks
Went to advance auto.... got the lamps they were showing...... of course not the right ones...... pulled the dash again.....checked a few lamps and the bulb at light/wiper switch.....bulbs were good..... but no power to the hot wires there...even checked red/blue wire that I had connected to the radio....it didn't have power.... pulled radio completely out to search for loose/disconnected wire... nothing....then checked fuse again.....it was bad.....either blew it before I disconnected the red/blue wire or just bad fuse to start with......put new fuse in and wa la there be lights in the dash...... replaced 2 bulbs while cluster was out before I put everything back together....... hey whats the best connection for spliced wires...... thinking of getting the little spade connectors aqnd crimp them on.... then tape over them..... any other suggestions?
I like the end-to-end crimp connectors. Strip a little bit of wire off each wire and slip into each end of the connector and crimp. Not necessary but I usually finish it off with a wrap of electrical tape.
