Greetings all:
Anyone know of a source for inexpensive wheels in 16x8 that will fit the Ranger? Seems like everything I see are gonzo expensive fancy ones. Basically I need a set for my new Edge to permanently mount my snow tires up (I don't want to scar up my pretty new OEM wheels ). TIA!
I can't help you much on where to find something, but if you are wanting something specifically for the snow you should think about getting a thinner tire. You can maintain the same aspect ratio by playing with the number a little. There are many online calculators that can help you with this. You don't even need to keep a 16" rim. Having a thinner tire helps in the snow because it won't float on top as easy, meaning it is more able to reach the actual pavement and when that is not possible it still bites a little more putting more snow around the edges for sideways traction.
8 inch is pretty wide, I agree. Most any reasonable tire will fit on a 16x7. Also the tire width will be the primary determinant of footprint, not the wheel width. I think anything from 235 to 265 would probably fit on a 7 inch wheel.
i'm sure you could find something on ebay. maybe sears or pep-boys might have something a bit less expensive. try a swap-meet or a bone yard for some used ones.

Unfortunately, I think I'm pretty much... well, you know . In the process of this, I'm going to be going from the stock 30 inch tires (255/70/16) to 32-33 inch tires. Since Ford puts the stock tires on 8 inch wide and I'm headed bigger, I don't think it would swift to use a narrower wheel. The available tires in 32+ inch by 16 are basically going to mandate the wheel size. In case anyone is interested, at this time, looks like I'll be running 285/75/16 WildCountry TXRs (I ran 30/9.50/15 TXRs on my old 02 and really loved them!).
I tryed on my mustang wheels on my 2000 2 wheel drive for fun. The rears fit but the fronts wouldnt fit over the hubs without spacers. The wheels are 17x8 on the front and 17x9 on the rears. I am also looking for 16x8 for mine. If i find some i will post.
