Hi guys,
I have an 84 Bronco which I drive everywhere...
it scared the ***** out of me a while back because as I was doing a turn, the brakes dissapeared when I reversed, and I had to stand on the pedal with both feet to stop it from pushing over a tree. after that I took it on a cautious trip around the quiet streets, and everything seemed fine. Master cylinder seal seems fine... brake system was bled & pads replaced about 6 months prior to this happening.
Your rear brakes need to be adjusted. Drum brakes work poorly in reverse compared to forward because of the way the shoe system is designed (to pivot) and if they are not adjusted correctly they will hardly work at all. I always found parking my BII on a steep incline with the parking brake set a challenging experience. Many times I had to set it to 4Lo to keep it from sliding backwards.
