What engine to build?

I want to compete more in truck pulling. May if there are some pullers here they can chime in. I don't want to build a 460. I want to be different and another ford motor that produces monster amounts of torque. I know theres the 400 stroker now. Does anyone have a hp/tq figures for it yet?

I can simulate a 434 cu. in. motor that uses CHI-3V heads, a roller cam with 0.550 lift and the same duration as a Comp cams 255DEH. It needs 9.65:1 CR or less unless you can use racing fuel. With a 750 CFM carb, and a dual plane intake, it will produce 550 ft-lbs of torque @ 2000 RPM, and 445 HP@5000 RPM. I think an EFI conversion with a Lightning or Accufab TB could make even more.

You can also use Ported Aussie heads from Power Heads, and get close to those numbers. You should drop the CR a little with iron heads.

The 400M is a nice engine to work with if you are looking for good torque. With the bore and the stroke at four inches there will be plenty of torque. With the different cams out there you can get one to fit your application. Talk to your machinist and tell him what you want to accomplsh and with a little help there is no reason you can't come up with a killer engine. I've been looking into a 400M for my 68 F-250 but have decided to go with a FE engine to stay with the original engine family that came in the truck. It will make for less changing of mounts and other external parts. Good luck.
