It took 2 months to replace the left rear quarter panel from the door to the back bumper on my moms 97 t-bird. It took a mont and a half to replace the front clip and sub frame on my friends brand new (400 miles) toyota corolla.
I would get mad after a month since thats how long the insurance company will give you a rent a car for, but if the damage is bad it could take up to 2 months, depending on part availibility and how busy the shop is.
It really depends on the specific damage, simple body wotk should only be a week or two, major frame and suspension damage would take longer, this is something you should ask the shop before starting the work. When I had by bedside damage repaired they were done in the three days and that is the time frame they quoted me.
it took three and a half months for my grand-national. i had $4000. in damages but it was an older car and the insurance i had at the time wanted to use regular regal parts that are not the same as grand-national parts. i had to do alot of arguing and alot of demanding but i finally got what i was supposed to get and i switched insurances. a good body-shop usually has alot of work and may take longer than others. then some are fairly large and have the ability to get'em in and out in a few days. insurance is usually the hold up because they won't pay the shop the $ they need and so on.
they gave me sept 15th, when got there my truck was still off the frame they told me they just finished the suspention then they told sept 30th at the latest and when we called they said they it just went to pain but it would be ready some time early oct
Well, one way to get a rough feel for the time is to simply look at the hours on your estimate and think about it. Realize that they will not be able to work on it constantly from start to finish uninterupted. For example, they may have to order more parts due to hidden damage. If there's frame damage, some shops sub that work out. Then you need to consider where you are in line when the vehicle comes into the shop. Odds are, there are people in line ahead of you. Really, it's all but impossible for a guy like me to put a precise amount of time to make a repair given just a dollar amount of damage. For example, I have no idea how much of that is for parts.
WOW two months? It took my dad, my girlfriend's dad, and me less than a week to replace the left front fender, header panel both headlights, bumper, air guard, and hood on my 94 XLT regular cab. It took two days for us to order the parts and strip the truck down, they arrived and we did it all in one night, including some minor alignment work.
Now over a month later it's finally in paint, should be back Thursday and she's gonna be a beaut!
