I have a 1990 Bronco II with the 2.9L and I can't get it to start. i came home last night for dinner from work and it was running fine, no problems at all. Then I go back outside to go to work, and go to start and nothing. The CD player comes on, the air turns on, and nothing is dimming. I can also hear the fuel pump go errr or whatever noise it makes when the ignition is turned on.
What all do I check for this? When checking TFI module what do I do? Is there a switch I can hit? Or where is it? I need details.. thanks.
What kind of no start: the kind where the starter doesn't even do anything, or the kind where the starter is doing its part to turn the engine over, but the engine doesn't "catch"?
For information on checking the TFI module, Ken00 has posted instructions for testing TFI ignition modules in his Tech info post.
can you check your battery voltage. maybe it has enough to run the radio and stuff but not enough to turn the starter. If that is not it try getting a hammer and tapping on the starter while someone cranks on it. Maybe it is just stuck. Dont see that as being the problem since you said it dosent make any noise. dose the broncos have a starter clinoyed on the fire wall? If so check to make sure you are getting power acorss it when you turn the ingnition. GL

I've tried jumpstarting it so it's getting enough power. And when I say run the radio I mean run 2 amps, one with subs and one for my fullrange sound and it get's loud.
I'll give it a tap on the starter.. another question. If it is the solenoid is there a way to trip it to test it?
jump across it and see if the starter engages, but make sure the truck is in park. all so you could check with a test light. I beleave one side should be hot at all times, and the other side that gose to the starter should get hot when you try to start the truck. GL

Well I decided to pull codes while I was at it, KOEO I got a pass (11) and then memory pulled up nothing. I would do KOER but.. lol I can't. I figured maybe that would show something magical but I guess not.
In order to do the test light I'd have to have 2 people, and it's 2:30 am. Not going to happen tonight, good night all.
On the side of the starter relay theres a wire with a rubber boot that just pulls off. Pull it off & connect that post to the positive post on the battery with a jumper cable. Does it crank?
Do this with ignition off & trans in neutral.
so are you getting power to the solenoid. also check your nuetral safty switch. try strating it in different gears, or bypass the switch. also sometimes jiggling the shifter around sometimes will work if its the nuetral safty switch. let me know what you find. GL

check for continuity between the two wires. there should be continuity, between the two wires, when it is in park. If there is not you can try and put a jumper on the other end so that it will complet the circuit, but be careful if you do this because it will start in any gear if you have a jumper wire in. GL
