ok my 97 is doing the exact same thing.......
right about 60,000 miles and sits alot
have changed the relays and the same thing
if we jump the terminals we can get the fuel pump to run and the truck will start but wont do anything above an idle
im totally at a loss about what to do now
ok after all was said and done.......the truck was towed to the ford dealer ..they tested everything and found the wire terminals on the underside of the fuse box under the hood were badly corroded and the wires had broken.......rewire and we are back in business
The resisistance readings that mmorton supplied apply only to the fuel level sender, not the pump. They don't apply to this problem.
Power to the fuel pump is supplied from F19 (always hot) in the underhood fuse box via energized FP relay and the inertia safety switch.
Supply power to the high side of the FP relay coil is from the energized PCM POWER relay (also goes to MAF sensor, CANV solenoid, O2 sensor heaters, injectors, and a number of other 12V solenoids). The low side of the FP relay goes to the PCM which energizes the relay under specific operating or test conditions.
