Question Gas gauge problem

I just bought a '99 F-350 diesel and was told the gas gauge is off and runs out at 1/4 tank. The gauge does move to full but only goes down to 1/4. Has anyone ran across this before. How do you fix it. Also has door lock problems. Where do you get the actuators? Ford or aftermarket? price? Thanks

You need to do the old "ground the sending wire" test to see if the problem is the wiring or the gauge, or the sending unit in the tank. I will have to wait till I get home to see what the wire colors are that you need to look for at the tank.

Yes. Go back to the tank and take the sending unit wire off. Turn the keyswitch to run, but don't start the truck. With the sending unit wire hanging in the air touching nothing, the fuel guage in the dash should swing full scale in one direction. Then take the sending unit wire and ground it on a good clean place on the frame. The guage should swing full scale the opposite direction. If this works, then the wire and the gauge are good, and there is something wrong with the sending unit, or the ground to the sending unit.
