Tyre size

Can anyone tell me the largest tyre size I can fit on 22''x 9.5'' rims. My local tyre store advises 315 40 22. I wanted to fit 315 50 22 Am I in danger of touching anything in the wheel arch on hard turns. My truck is a Ford F150 stepside 2 wheel drive 1997. Regards, Mike

The 50 series will NOT fit, not sure the 40 will fit either. If you want a decent sidewall height go with a 20 in rim. If you want bling, put a 35 series tire on 22s.
