While under my 2004 F250 changing the oil, I noticed some light rust on body seams and the frame. I am thinking getting spray cans of undercoating and doing it myself. I plan to keep this truck for as long as possible.
i am NOT an expert on this, but here is my intuition (worth less than $0.05).
Seems like that wouldn't be a problem.
BUT....... like painting a car, I would get the rust OUT OF THERE before coating it. I dunno, sanding it, whatever. It seems prudent to try to clean it all up before coating.....
Find a local Valuguard dealer, and call and ask them. You can buy product from them if you want to do it yourself, and they will probably be happy to answer a few ?s.
I had my "95 Aerostar until this summer. Put 200K on it so you know it was not just sitting around. Also, I live in Northern Illinois so you know that it was exposed to a lot of salt too. No undercoating. The only spots i had rust were on the rocker panels. I agree with the others - fix up the spot with the rust and leave the rest alone, don't coat it. The trucks are pretty good these days!
With it being a 2004, shouldn't the truck still have the warranty against rust? Take it to the dealer.
I think thats just rust-through . Its just some very light surface rust on the edges of some seams on the underside of the body...nothing serious. But I am ****, and want to get well adhead of it.
when my truck was new i passed on the dealer undercoating, and had it ziebarted and then painted the driveshafts and whatever else was exposed when they were done. I remember seeing seam caulk and lots of exposed metal. take it to a pro such as ziebart and give the job to them. A couple hundred. No big deal. Suprised you are so slow. Bill
