Runs but knocking now
I put a new dist in the 300 industral 6 in my chipper
and got it running but now it has a knock. One of the
mechanical advance weights let loose and stopped the
top of the dist from turning , it was at normal running
RPM when it back fired two times and stopped . I am
thinking that it might be a piece of carbon between the
head and piston and need the name of a top engine
cleaner and where to buy it . I did a search on knocks
and timming gears were a possible cause if they are
plastic and not steel.If the top engine cleaner does
not work I will start tearing it down .

The knocking was caused by a bad timming gear , the
vibration damper is junk broke at key ,sheared the key
in the crank . From the look of the crankshaft this has
been like this for a while , I can not mess with this any more
ordered another engine as I am out of bussiness without
a chipper to get rid of the brush. This is an old but till
now a very dependable machine still worth the $$ of
a rebuilt engine just need to come up with a vibration
damper .
