Can someone send me a pick or help me ID my transfer case? It's stock in a 1975 F-100 4x4. Came with c-6 tranny. Have tried to find a pic of NP 203, but can't one. Anything in the VIN to help?
Thanks
If it's full time 4wd then it's a chain driven NP203, if it's a part time 4wd then it's a gear driven NP205.
I have pictures of both in my gallery under the t case swap section. I'm about to swap out my 203 for a 205.
Any other questions about your t case, just ask I could help you or there are many other people on here with alot of knoledge about Ford trucks.
I would double check but you might run into a tranny output problem. The adapter plates for the 203 and the 205 are diffent lenghts.Depending on the year and model of c-6 trans, you'll have to use one or thre other adapters. My original adapter was steel and off a standard.I was told by ford that in that year they were all the same. But when I got a c-6 trans out of a 80 f250 4x4 the tailshaft bottomed in the case before it got tight together. The solution was to find a 203 truck with a c-6 and tak off the adapter off the end of the tranny.I first tried a 78 c-6 adapter out of a 4x4 with a 205 case like mine.Way too long of a adapter. You'll see.I would hate to guess but I think the 203 case in a auto set up has the diffrent c-6 than in a 205 auto set up.There is definetly some lenght isuues. On top of if you go one particular set up the driveshafts won't have to be altered.Because of the shorter trans but bigger case.Any questions ask me.I've done it very successfully on my 78 f150 4x4 and was easy and didn't touch the driveshafts .Lotts of peaple go the other root and have to modify the driveshafts because the case is back so far or forward depending on which case you started with.good luck.
