Can you put a Chrome Billet Grill over the stock Lariat Chrome Grill ?

I've decided against the Chrome Billet style grill that comes w/chrome package because a member has said it's plastic & looks cheap..

I want to install the Putco Billet Grill which " Installs over existing truck manufacturers grille with NO DRILLING. NO CUTTING or removal of any grille component needed."
http://www.putco.com/liquid.shtml

Now this may be a dumb question but I'm a Billet Newbie....Does the stock grill have to be black so it doesn't show through the overlay billet grill or can you install it over a chrome grill from the Lariat ? Won't the stock chrome grill show through if you install it over it ?

Please be gentle.

I believe the Ford trucks used in that Putco photo are circa 2004 or older. Your factory grill is different in that Ford added two chrome cross bars to the grill 'frame' in 2005 (same in 2006).

I'm guessing the billet inserts you are considering mount in-between these chrome cross bars, similar to the aftermarket billet grill shown here on this 2005 model. These billet inserts are from b-coolbillets.com

My suggestion would be to give Putco a call to confirm their grill is similar.

Thanks....you're correct. The pic is of a pre /05 grill w/out the 2 additional cross bars....That's what had me confused. I thought the overlay had to cover the cross bars.

Me Bad..

I like the /04 & Older Billet style better though....
